It's been 25 years since New Zealand fashion line El Jay closed down. In that time few people have been inside its central Auckland headquarters until now.Gus Fisher's workroom is reopening today for a three-day fabric sale, giving New Zealanders a chance to own a piece of local fashion history.He's shaking off the dust of time and opening up the Kingston St building that's been empty and largely untouched since it closed its doors in 1988.This was the heart of the fashion label El Jay, established by Fisher the only New Zealander to have the privilege of making and selling Christian Dior designs here.
